Bryan gets off the phone and says we are encountering a disaster and neither my mom nor his mom were any help. Gee, Lyndah is in MN, how much help was that going to be. My mother was flooded in. He says that Gabriel hopped out of his crib not once but twice. We could not put him back in there that night, we must enter emergency big boy bed mode. The crib was supposed to transform into a toddler bed, I said not to worry we will just transform it. We took this video just prior to disassembly.
We then discovered that even though it said toddler bed, it really is just a mini day bed with no guard to prevent a toddler from falling out, just a bit of decorative wood. Hmmmmm....we thought, what should we do. We packed up the family and made a late trip to IKEA in lovely Elizabeth, NJ. We ate, Gabriel had a great time (despite no nap), he ate macaroni and cheese from a bowl (with his hands) as Mommy and Daddy were trying not to reveal their fear to all of Essex County. We chose a twin size because we felt all the small toddler beds were too girly and we would never have to get another bed for him. I made an emergecy call to Nikki to discuss Madison's bed rail. This is the bed we chose. Any normal boy would be just over the moon to have such a bed. It even comes with a tent. It is reversable so that until he is big enough to sleep on top, it flips over so the mattress is only a few inches off the ground, we thought this would be perfect and fun. As a bonus, it matches the rest of his IKEA furniture. Hmmmmmmm.....you say.
On the way home, yup, Gabriel had a nap. It was super late and he was fresh from this nap when we decided to introduce him to his new mattress. He loved it. I thought I don't care if he stays up all night jumping on it if I get to go to sleep.
We still made emergecy trips to Walmart and Home Depot to buy up all their anti-Gabriel devices. The baby departments are horrible and we could not get everything we needed. Yup, were were all up till 11:45PM securing the room so Gabriel would not be able to rip it apart, as he would have free run of his room. We left the door open and the gate up. (the heat problem was horrible, you're all aware of that and it throws a wrench in the whole disaster plan). The cats thought it was a party, I had to lock them in our room all night. He was sooooo tired, he went in without knowing where he was, he woke up once or twice and screamed and yelled forever about it each time. Buddy got locked in there when I decided to close the door and then woke up Gabriel in the morning. Later that day we went to eat corned beef hash, Gabriel loved it Mommy and Daddy were tired.
